Shauchât svânga-jugupsâ parair asamsargah
From the practice of purification, aversion towards one's own body is developed and thus aversion extends to contact with other bodies.
When purity and cleanliness of the body and mind are obtained, there arises in the Yogi asense of transcendence and detachment from his or her own physical body, and a disinclination to come into physical contact with the impurities of the bodies of others.

Union with cosmic conciousness is realized by surrender of the self to Godhood, the universal "I-am". Nobody can obtain cosmic conciousness, or saladhi, while retaining his or her individual or personal "I-am".
Reference to the next eight sutras:
Everybody has five bodies. They are:
- Annamaya-kosa - the external body of matter made by food.
- Pranayama-kosa _ the body of prana or electricity.
- Manomaya-kosa - the body of mind with its five senses, five sensory organs and five motor organs.
- Vijnamaya-kosa - the psychosomatic body, the body of individual conciousness, individual "I-am".
- Anandamaya-kosa - the body of cosmic bliss, the universal "I-am".
The physical body, the body of matter, is subject to time and space, birth and death. It is born and someday it will die.The body of matter is made with the seeds of the father and mother and is constantly being nourished by food.
The other four bodies, the bodies of prana, mind, individual conciousness, and universal conciousness are cosmic and eternal. They are the internal bodies. At the time of death, they leave the physical body and at the time of birth, theycreate another physical form, along with the seeds of the father and mother.
As long as one is not liberated, one has no fredom from the body of matter. The enlightened person does not need this material body, except to help others. These four cosmic bodies can not operate in the relative universe, without the cooperation of the body of matter.
Therefore, these four bodies are called the operative force and the body of matter is called the operative field. In order to have any operation of the four internal bodies, our physical body of matter must be in good order. Therefore, the practices of asana and pranayama are required.
Sthira-sukam âsanam.
Motionless and agreeable form (of staying) is Asana (Yogic posture).
Asana means posture, as well as mudra, or mood. Asana is that which brings steadiness and happiness, and is the third step in the perfection of Yoga.
Prayatna-shaithilyânanta-samâpattibhyâm
By relaxation of effort and meditation on the infinite, asanas are perfected.
Daily practiced, asana, posture brings absolute relaxation, without any effort or stress, as well as meditation on the infinite, the universal "i-am", beyond the body and mind.
Tato dvandvânabhighâtah
From that arises immunity from Dvandvas or opposite conditions.
When posture is mastered, there is a cessation of the disturbances caused by the pairs of opposites, the dualities such as heat and cold, love and hate, liking and disliking, -- in short, any pair of opposites, whether physical, mental, or spiritual.
Tasmin sati shvâsa-prashvâsayor gati-vicchedah prânâyâmah
That (Asana) having been perfected, regulation of the flow of inhalation and exhalation is Pranayama (breath control).
The fourh step in Yoga practice is pranayama, the expansion of the individual prana itoo cosmic prana. Breath control is a by-product of pranayama.
Breathing has four phases: inhalation, taking air into the body; holding air in the lungs and the body; expelling air from the lungs and body; holding air outside the lings and the body. Then the cycle begins again. This happens naturally from birth to deatnh.
Breath control is accomplished by either holding the breath on inhalation, on exhalation,or stopping the breath natuarally. One begins practice of pranayama with breathing exercises and ends with cosmic expansion, cosmic energy.
