These obstacles, distractions of the mind, are: sickness, dullness, doubt, carelessness, laziness, sense addiction, false view, non-attainment of a stage, and instability..

La maladie, l'incompetence, le doute, la desillusion, la paresse, la non-abstinence, la conception erronee, la non-atteinte de quelque etat yogi ou l'instabilite pour demeurer dans un etat yogi, ces distractions de la pensee sont les empechements.

Die Hindernisse für die Verwirklichung sind Krankheit, geistige Trägheit, Zweifel, Gleichgültigkeit, Faulheit, Verlangen nach Vergnügen, Täuschung, die Unfähigkeit zur Konzentration und Ruhelo-sigkeit des Geistes durch Ablenkungen.

The challeges, which distract the mind, are physical and mental disease, indolence and absolute confusion about what to do and what not to do, doubt and scepticism, carelessness and lack of interest, lethargy and laziness, worldly-mindedness and sensuality, delusion and hallucination, fall from the desired state and instability or inability to remain permanently in that state.

A dissatisfied, despairing body and unsteady inhalation and exhalation accompany the distractions.

La tristesse, le manque d'enthousiasme, l'inquietude, l'inspiration et l'expiration proviennent des distractions prealables.

Geistiger Schmerz, Depression, physische Nervosität und unreglmäßige Atmung sind die Sympto-me eines verwirrten Geisteszustandes.

Panic, anxiety anquish, lack of mental peace and rest, shaking of the body, nervousness, and various types of breathing disorders - these are all symptoms of a distracted mind.


tat pratisedha-artham eka-tattva-abhyasa

tat pratisedha-artham eka-tattva-abhyasa
For the purpose of countering them, [there is] the practice of one thing (eka-tattva).

Pour les restreindre (c 'est a dire les distractions) la pratique (de la concentration) dans un principe unique, doit etre faite.

Um diese Hindernisse zu beseitigen, sollte man über einen Aspekt der Wahrheit meditieren.

To overcome these obstacles, meditate on the chief principle; hold on to "I-am".""

Clarification of the mind [results] from the cultivation of friendliness, compassion, happiness, and equanimity in conditions of pleasure, dissatisfaction, merit, and absence of merit, respectively.

La pensee devient purifiee par la culture des sentiments d'amitie, de compassion, de bonne volonte et d'indifference respectivement aux creatures heureuses, miserables, vertueuses ou coupables.

Der Geist wird duch die Entwicklung von Freundlichkeit, Wohlwollen, Zufriedenheit und Gleichmut klar gegenüber Glück, Laster und Tugend.

The mind becomes calm and tranquil by cultivating an attitude offriendliness and fellowship toward happy going persons, compassion and kindness toward the miserable, entertainment and joy toward the virtuous, and indifference toward those who appear to be doing evil.


Pracchardana–vidharanabyam va pranasya

Pracchardana–vidharanabyam va pranasya
Or by expulsion and retention of breath.

Par l'expiration et la restriction de la respiration aussi (la pensee est calmee).

Dies wird auch durch das Ausstoßen und das Zurückhalten des Atems erreicht.

The mind also becomes tranquil, serene and blissful by alternately expelling and retaining the energy of prana, through very powerful breating exercises.


visaya-vati va pravrttir utpanna manasah sthiti-nibandani

visaya-vati va pravrttir utpanna manasah sthiti-nibandani
Or steady binding of the mind-organ arises in activity of involvement with a condition.

Le developpement de la perception objective appelee Visayavati apporte aussi de la tranquillite mentale.

Festigkeit des Geistes wird leicht begründet, wenn die höheren Sinne wirksam werden.

Whenmeditation produces extraordinary sense perception, the mind gains confidence and this helps further perseverance.


Vishokâ vâ jyotishmatî

Vishokâ vâ jyotishmatî
Or having sorrowless illumination.

Ou par la perception qui est libre de tristesse et qui est rayonnante (la stabilite mentale est aussi produite).

Oder durch Konzentration auf den inneren Zustand des Lichtes, der jenseits von Leid ist.

The mind becomes calm, serene, and free from sorrow by meditating on the effulgent light at the third eye center and it experiences the explosion of the light of conciousness.


vita-raga-visayam va cittam

vita-raga-visayam va cittam
Or [on a] mind in a condition free from attachment.

Ou (en contemplant) une pensee qui est libre de desirs (la pensee du devot devient stable).

Oder durch Fixieren des Geistes auf jemanden, der menschliche Leidenschaften und Verhaftun-gen transzendiert hat.

Also, meditation on one, who has attained perfection through desirelessness brings peace of mind.


Svapna-nidrâ-jnânâlambanam vâ

Svapna-nidrâ-jnânâlambanam vâ
Or resting on knowledge [derived] from dream or sleep.

Ou en prenant comme objet de meditation les images des reves ou du sommeil sans reves, (La pensee du yogi devient stable).

Oder durch Meditation über Wissen, das im Traum oder Tiefschlaf gewonnen wurde.

Also, meditate on knowledge that comes during sleep in the form of dreams. This sutra indicates Self-analysis through dream analysis.


Yathâbhimata–dhyânâd vâ

Or from meditation as desired.
Or from dedication to Isvara.

Ou en contemplant quelque chose que l'individu aime (la pensee devient stable).

Oder durch Meditation über das, was einem zusagt.

Also, meditate on anything that pleases you and brings calmness to the mind. This sutra indicates occupational therapy.
