A Liver Cleanse

As far as can be determined, the following liver cleanse has been in use for 2500 years. However, there are about as many variations and many people have chosen to monetize this ancient wisdom, by attaching their name or brand to their particular method. I, too, have developed my own variation, based on my use of the liver cleanse, and choose to share. Remember, a healthy liver is absolutely essential to life and your liver produces cholesterol, which is the foundation for the brain's hormone cascade.

Many people call this procedure a gall bladder cleanse, since it also clears the gall bladder of gall stones. It is the job of the liver to make bile, 1 to 1½ quarts in a day! The liver is full of tubes (biliary tubing) that deliver the bile to one large tube (the common bile duct). The gallbladder is attached to the common bile duct and acts as a storage reservoir. Eating fat or protein triggers the gallbladder to squeeze itself empty after about twenty minutes, and the stored bile finishes its trip down the common bile duct to the intestine. The gall bladders function is to send bile through the bile duct to the intestine. Bile is necessary for the digestion of dietary fats. Though the gall bladder and bile duct can become clogged with stones, the stones originate in the liver. In the process of cleansing the liver, the gall bladder and bile duct get flushed clear, also. People, who have foolishly had their gall bladders removed, should consider this liver cleanse, also.

The so-called stones are not actually stones. They are hardened masses of cholesterol, which have formed in the liver and lodge in the liver, gall bladder and bile duct. They vary in color, shape and size depending on their age. The newest stones are a green color, the color of bile; the older stones are brown, red and black. They can vary in size from the size of a grain of sand to an avocado pit. At the very center of each stone is found a clump of bacteria, suggesting that a dead bit of parasite might have started the stone forming. Passing large, odd shaped stones through the bile duct can be quite painful, which is why the gall bladder and bile duct are removed in over one million surgeries per year, following the surgeon's dictum, "When in doubt, cut it out."

To my way of thinking, removing the gall bladder does nothing about the root cause of stones and cripples the victim's digestion for life. Stones of hardened cholesterol can be attributed to two main causes - poor nutrition and liver parasites, plus a combination of the two.

Now, don't start thinking that you can not possibly have internal parasites in your body. According to the World Health Organization, over half the human population of earth is infested with parasites... and the percentage of people with parasites in North America exceeds the percentage of people with parasites in Africa. Why?... dietary habits, again.

There is a simple test to see if you have parasites. The very first thing when you wake up in the morning, before you even get out of bed, spit twice into the glass of water that you left on your nightstand from the night before. Now over the course of the next 15 minutes watch the glass of water. If your spit just kind of dissolves and dissipates in the water, you do not have an infection. If on the other hand it becomes cloudy, with strings, sinks to the bottom, looks like spider webs, you more than likely have some sort of yeast infection. If there is sediment in the bottom of the glass after 30 minutes or so then you have parasites also and will need to deal with them first. It will be very noticeable, so don't worry about being unsure. In many cases, you will be able to tell in the first 5 minutes.

The basic original liver cleanse

Eat only fat-free breakfast the day of cleanse, and then fast.

In the evening: squeeze juice from 10 lemons and mix it with 1 cup of olive oil.

Drink it.

Walk all night. Empty bowels into the pot and look for stones.

DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF, IT CAN BE QUITE PAINFUL

A More Pleasant Variation of the Liver Cleanse

If you have been reading my daily thoughts for any length of time, you may have noticed that I am not one of those yogi ascetics. Life has a way of providing enough pain and discomfort. I do not care to add to it. If something is good for me and somewhat pleasurable, I am more likely to do it.

First; go shopping - You will need 12 to 18 bottles of natural, unfiltered apple juice and 2 to 3 grams of powdered cinamon per bottle and at least one fresh lime per bottle. You also need the olive oil and lemon, as mentioned above, and a supply of magnesium sulphate(MgSO4), magnesium heptahydrate (MgSO4ž7H2O), commonly called Epsom salts, or magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2), commonly called Milk of Magnesia. If you can find a supply of otnithine and/or tryptophan, buy it. If you like get some cayenne pepper, some nutmeg, some ground cloves and some fresh ginger root (or powdered, if you must).

Next, schedule a time for the cleanse. You want to do the cleanse over two days, when you have a light schedule.

Then, start drinking apple juice one week earlier. For each bottle of apple juice, add 3 grams of cinamon and the juice of at least one lime. You can add cayenne pepper, powdered cloves, nutmeg, or ginger root for taste and variety. I like mine to taste like mom's apple pie. Drink one to three liters of juice each day. Eat whatever you like but with this much apple juice you do not need to each much; nor will you feel the need.

Why all this apple juice, you ask? The apple juice is very relaxing for your intestines; it is alkaline, so it makes your gastrointestinal tract more alkaline, thus creating an environment inhospitable for parasites. Unfiltered apple juice is very high in malic acid, which softens the stones and makes them easier to eliminate. The cinamon, lime, cayenne, cloves and ginger are all vermifuges. That is they kill parasites. Some kill the parasite, some kills the parasite's eggs. Save the nutmeg for the last day; it will relax you but do not use more than 5 grams(one teaspoon), because nutmeg in larger doses is a halucinogen. And , do not ingest nutmeg if you are pregnant. The cinamon will also help your pancreas balance the sugar load from all of the fructose in the apple juice.

If this sudden sugar load causes diarrhea, make sure you replenish fluids. The purging is good for you, at this stage. I suggest that you replace fluids by drinking a decoction of St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum), also known as millepertuis and JoahannesKraut. Hypericum is also a vermifuge and it may give you a psychological lift. The serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, like Prozac, which are prescribed for depression, are derived from Hypericum.

As soon as you get out of bed on the morning of the day scheduled for the cleanse, do the short form of the intestinal cleanse, Laghoo Shankaprakshalana. Read the page and do the short procedure.

Relax and enjoy the day. Drink your juice and substitute the nutmeg for the cinamon.

TIMING IS CRITICAL FOR THE NEXT FEW STEPS, because we need to take advantage of the body's internal clock.

Stop apple juice and all food at 4:30 PM

7:30 PM take 3/4 cup water mixed with 1 tablespoon of magnesium sulphate, Milk of Magnesia, or Epsom salt. The magnesium relaxes the gasrointestinal sphincters or valves, as shown here and relaxes the large bile duct.

9:30 PM take another dose of magnesium sulphate, Milk of Magnesia, or Epsom salt. At this point you may also take ornithine and tryptophan. Both are amino acids, which help one go to sleep. Between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM drink a mixture of a 3/4cup (6 oz.) olive oil and 3 oz. of freshly squeezed lemon juice. I shake this until mixed and gulp it down. You may want to sip it through a straw. It tastes OK but some people do not like the feel of the oil on their lips.

Then go directly to bed and lie down on your right side with two pillows under the right hip. The pillows slant the body so that the oil will leave the stomach faster and go down into the duct area and into the gallbladder. As you rest, the oil will be saturating and cleansing the body tissues. It will feel awkward, but this is the most effective position for the oil to do its work in expelling the gallstones. You may change your position after 4 or 5 hours. Your body typically purges the liver and gall bladder each night, as you sleep, between 02:00 AM and 03:00 AM.

After drinking the oil and lemon, you may feel like burping or vomiting. You might sip on a little tomato juice. The acid and the salt in the juice help cut the oil. Don't drink more than a tablespoon or so of the tomato juice. You might want to just hold it in your mouth and then spit it out. Sometime during the night, you may vomit or be nauseated. This is caused by the gallbladder ejecting the stones with such force that it shoots the oil back into the stomach. When the oil returns to the stomach, you may feel ill. You may be able to feel the expulsion of stones. It will not be a sharp pain, just a mild contraction. You may spend a miserable night, but usually I have a good sleep.

Sometime during the next day you will probably have a bowel movement. Check the toilet water carefully. When you pass gallstones, you should see them floating near the top of the toilet water. You won't feel pain when they are expelled. The oil makes them slick and the malic acid has softened them. The stones are soft when they pass. The stones can be the size of tiny pebbles or as large as the end of your thumb. The stones come in different shades of green and may be bright colored and shiny like gemstones. The color comes from the bile. The light colored stones are the newest. Blackish stones are the oldest. Some people say that when they passed their stones, the toilet water looked like balls of bright green grass.

After you have passed the gallstones, you will experience increased stamina. Don't pig out on the next few days. The body has slowed down and it will take 3 or 4 days to rebuild to a normal diet. For 3 or 4 days following the procedure, eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables and drink unsweetened juices to restart the digestive mechanisms. Eat small meals and watch to see if there is pain after eating. If so, go more slowly. Fruits are easiest to digest. On the second day after the cleanse, a simple vegetable soup with plenty of broth is good.

Do not make the mistake I made, at one time. I felt so good after the cleanse that I went to a Swiss "raclette" a few days later. Raclette is a high butterfat cheese dinner. It is delicious but I suffered.

Any questions??
