Phosphatidyl Serine

Today, I actually suggest that you take a fat pill!

An extremely beneficial brain tonic, Phosphatidyl Serine, is chemically similar to the phosphatidyl choline found in lecithin. It is less abundant in lecithin than phosphatidyl cholineis, however, and it is not easily found in common foods (for GU - sheep brains and bovine brains). Therefore it should be taken in capsule form.

Phosphatidyl Serine improves cognitive function, significantly. It is a naturally occurring form of fat, or phospholipid, that is found in every cell of your body, but is far more abundant in the brain than in other organs. It is especially abundant in the cell membranes of neurons and it is important for keeping the membranes easily permeable, so that nutrients can enter and wastes exit.

It also helps the brain cells to conduct nerve impulses and to release adequate amounts of neurotransmitters. These two actions permit the neurons to better communicate. Phosphatidyl Serine benefits people with age related memory impairment and helps optimize cognition in people who have no cognitive impairment.

In one study, a group of memory impaired patients, with an average age of 64 showed significant cognitive improvement after taking Phosphatidyl Serine. They improved on a number odf memory tests, including tests for recall of phone numbers, of misplaced objects, and of written material. In addition, they had an improved ability to concentrate while reading, conversing and performing tasks. Phosphatidyl Serine effectively "rolled back the clock", by an average of twelve years.

In a study of healthy subjects, it was discovered that Phosphatidyl Serine significantly lowered the production of stress hormones and increased the presence of calming alpha brain waves by 15 to 20 percent. Phosphatidyl Serine has also been shown to relieve depressive symptoms, in a significant percentage of people with clinical depression.

Phosphatidyl Serine can be purchased at your local health food store. A reasonable dosage is 100mg to 300mg daily, depending on your cognitive decline. Anything less than 100mg is ineffectual. Buy the form which is derived from soy lecithin; I think it is safer than the form derived from animal brains.

Any questions??
